Regular care of your furniture proves more beneficial than occasional, heavy-duty maintenance.

Here are a few cleaning tips for items you may have in your Tropitone arsenal!

Cleaning Frames, Painted Finishes, and Fabrics

To make sure of your furniture’s structural integrity, regularly tighten hardware to avoid loosening.  Make sure to thoroughly look over your furniture and replace any hardware that may be missing as well!  As far as painted finishes, periodically clean them with soap and lukewarm water, making sure to stay away from abrasive cleaners. Gloss finishes may be waxed (auto paste wax is recommended) to help maintain and restore the look of the finish. The livelihood of your outdoor furniture’s fabric material depends largely on how much you care for it.  Regularly rinsing down fabric (water only) can extend its life dramatically.  Certain suntan and sun block items may lead to permanent discoloration of your fabric; remember to immediately clean after contact!

Teakwood, Umbrellas, and Tabletops Care

Teakwood can be cared for with a sponge or soft bristle, using a lukewarm soapy water mixture.  Your teakwood furnishings will naturally weather and turn a soft gray when exposed to the outdoors for a period (can take several years depending on climate). If mildew forms on teak, you can use a bleach solution and apply directly with a bristle brush.  Umbrellas should be closed when not in use, especially in windy conditions, make sure your umbrellas are stored away to prevent unwanted damage.  If oxidation occurs on aluminum umbrellas, you may use steel wool and then follow with protective coating(wd-40). Glass tabletops can be quickly cleaned by using a glass cleaner with ammonia, or if the top is stone, use a soft cloth and a lukewarm soapy water mixture.

Rust Removal, and Stainless-Steel Stains

If something is ever spilled onto your stainless-steel furniture, quickly clean the affected area.  Stains that are left behind can become permanent! Rust also has the capability of pitting and etching your furnishings.  To care for rust on stainless steel furniture, apply a non-abrasive steel cleaner, then polish the area.  Do not rub in a circular motion, always with the grain.  If the rust or stain is persistent, Scotch-Brite® has cleaning products such as their general purpose and pad that could help.  After the rust has been thoroughly cleaned, rinse with water.

There are many different materials used in outdoor furnishings that require care to enjoy their full potential.  Whether you’re using Tropitone furnishings or any other of the various outdoor brands available at Casual Creations, regular cleaning and care will extend their life, and keep them beautiful!
