Sunvilla Outdoor Furniture in Baton Rouge: Protecting Your Patio Furniture This WinterWinter weather in Baton Rouge means a reprieve from the heat and humidity.  It also means that between the falling temperatures and early sunsets, less time will be spent outdoors, specifically on your outdoor furniture.  With long summers and short winters, quality outdoor furniture is a staple of your home during most of the calendar, which makes Sunvilla a great option for your patio or deck.  Sunvilla was founded by industry experts that excel in both the manufacturing and retail sides of the outdoor furniture sector.  They offer a variety of styles, fabrics, and finishes that are durable, fashionable, and functionable.

In spite of our brief winter weather, it can still take a toll on your outdoor furniture.  From freezing temps to rain and wind, there are a few steps you can take to make sure your furniture is protected and ready for spring.

Protecting Metal Outdoor Furniture

A lot of outdoor furniture is made of aluminum, which is typically powder coated for a more a durable finish. However, a great added layer of protection for your outdoor furniture is to apply a coat of liquid or spray on automotive wax.

Wrought iron furniture, while durable, can be susceptible to rust and corrosion.  If you notice any, brush it off with a wire brush and coat with an outdoor spray paint.  It’s also a good idea to cover this type of furniture when not in use.

Protecting Wicker Outdoor Furniture

Synthetic wicker is a great option for outdoor furniture and stands up to all sorts of weather conditions.  However, if you have natural rattan furniture, it needs to be kept in a dark, dry place.

Protecting Outdoor Furniture Fabric

Outdoor furniture fabric is designed to deter mildew.  However, these acrylic fabrics can still have mold if left wet or dirty. Acrylic fabrics can and should be cleaned with bleach and water.

While Sunbrella fabrics do not promote mildew growth, it may still grow on dirt and other substances.  To remove mold or mildew follow these steps:

  • Prepare one cup of a solution of 1 cup bleach, ¼ cup mild soap per gallon of water.
  • Spray the entire surface area, allowing the solution to soak into the fabric for 15 minutes.
  • Clean the entire surface area with a sponge, clean towel, or a soft brush.
  • Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
  • Let air dry.

For severe mold or mildew growth, simply increase the amount of bleach.  To avoid water rings and stains, clean the entire surface area.

These are only a few tips to keep your outdoor furniture fresh, clean, protected, and ready to be used.  If it’s time to update or upgrade your outdoor furniture, the experts at Casual Creations are here to help.
