Gas Firepits in Baton Rouge: Tips for Cleaning and Maintenance Fall is upon us which means we finally get a break from the summer heat, humidity, rain, and mosquitoes. This means that we can set up outside and prepare for some fun in the backyard. No fall gathering is complete without a fire and gas firepits are a great way to enjoy a cool night outdoors with a fire that is controlled, safe, and bound to keep you warm and cozy.

Maintaining and cleaning your gas firepit is simple and the best way to ensure its longevity. Here are a few tips on how to maintain your firepit and give it the maximum amount of life for your outdoor gatherings.

Do Not Pour Hot Water onto an Open Flame- If this were a bonfire or campfire, then of course water is the best way to extinguish the flame. However, this practice can damage your firepit. Metal expands in the presence of heat and contracts when it cools. A dramatic change in temperature like this could warp, crack, or deteriorate the metal parts of your firepit.
Understand Safety with Gas, Tanks, and Valves- Bad practice with these components will not only endanger your equipment but could put you at serious risk for injury, even death. Read all warning labels associated with your products. Be sure to shut off all valves when not using your firepit. It is also very important to store any propane tanks properly. Store your tank in a cool, dry space, preferably in a shed away from the home. You should also make sure that your tank is not confined to a small space with no ventilation.
Soap and Water Are Plenty to Clean Your Equipment- After using your firepit, a simple rinse with soap and water will provide sufficient cleaning for your equipment. You should also remove any leaves, dirt, rocks, or debris that may have gotten inside of your firepit. If you are using a pit that has fire glass, you should remove the glass to clean dirt and residue that may be underneath, however the glass itself does not need to be cleaned.
Invest in a Cover for Your Firepit- Covering your firepit when it is not in use is the best way to prevent dirt, debris, or buildup from getting into your equipment. These covers can be inexpensive and come in a variety or materials, colors, and fabrics that can match the décor of your outdoor space.
