Exposure to the elements, changing out propane tanks, and general use can cause weathering and erosion on the connections or to the hose itself. This wear and tear can lead to small leaks in the system, and though these leaks may be tiny, they can create inefficiencies which can create a safety hazard and increase fuel waste.

Follow these steps to see if you have a leak in your propane grill:

  1. Visually inspect the hose and connections. If anything is brittle or rotten, replace it immediately.
  2. Fill a spray bottle with soapy water. Make sure there is no ammonia in the soap solution, as ammonia can cause further damage to the tank.
  3. Double-check that the hose is properly connected to the propane tank.
  4. Turn the propane tank on but do not light the grill.
  5. Thoroughly spray the soapy water on the hose, valve stem, regulator, main connection, and all the way up to where the hose distributes to the burner.
  6. If bubbles form on the outside of the hose, you have a leak and should replace that part immediately.
