8_Outdoor-Kitchens-125264-edited.jpgAs the weather begins to change during this time of the year we realize how little time we’ve spent outside at our outdoor kitchen.  No matter if you made your appliances and surfaces spotless after your last cookout, the weeks, or months of non-use have definitely taken their toll.  So as the temperature begins to increase, and the call of your outdoor kitchen gets louder, here are a few tips to get everything nice and clean before your next meal, or before the next time you entertain.

Make Your Grill Shimmer Before it Sizzles

While it may have become a routine habit to scrape your grill grates with a wire brush before you toss a steak over the flame, there are several other elements of your grill that need some attention.  This is especially true if there has been some downtime in between uses.  The burners, valves, and hoses, as well as the other surfaces of your grill should also be cleaned.  This is also a good opportunity to check the condition of each piece before a long spring, summer, and fall of outdoor cooking.

Don’t Count Out the Countertops

Many popular surfaces in outdoor kitchens include natural materials such as granite or stone.  While these options offer a variety of colors and textures, they are also porous; meaning they can stain.  Rain, sun, and simple maintenance can easily prevent staining.

Don’t Over Apply Your Appliances

While stainless steel is a popular material for appliances and surfaces in your outdoor kitchen, and they largely resist rust and corrosion, it is still important for them to be cared for.  Always use a cutting board instead of cutting directly on the stainless surface.  Also don’t leave pots, pans, or other metal items on your stainless surfaces for too long.  When it comes time to clean your appliances and other areas with stainless steel, simply rinse with soapy water and follow the grain of the metal as you dry it.
